  • Learning what depression/anxiety is and how to track their mood
  • Identifying how thoughts affect mood, and disputing negative thinking
  • Identifying how behaviors affect mood, and increasing participation in activities to help control mood
  • Exploring personal strengths and developing plans for achieving goals
  • Increasing assertiveness and self-esteem
  • Building up social confidence and more effective interpersonal skills
  • Setting healthy boundaries

Process Group:

Group therapy is devised to bolster communication, trust and insight. A “process” oriented group focuses on the experience of being in a group, itself, as the healing opportunity. The process of expressing your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe environment, “in the here and now” can be the very vehicle by which one discovers change.  During this time frame, the group therapists and group members work towards establishing a level of trust that allows them to communicate openly and honestly. In a non-judgmental climate of trust, people feel free to care about and help each other. Participants are often surprised at how much their contributions help other members. Group trust and cohesion is enhanced when all members make a commitment to the group.

During the group meeting time, members are responsible for conversing about what is troubling them.  A fluid discussion ensues according to what members would like to talk about — the group facilitator does not, for the most part, designate topics for the group to discuss.  Members are encouraged to give support and feedback to others, and to work with the reactions and responses that other members’ contributions bring up for them.  Group members and group therapists may serve as models for effective communication, offer problem-solving strategies/coping mechanisms, and promote self-acceptance and self-support.
